Christopher Bird became a science journalist after serving in the U.S. Army. His special field of interest was the world of unconventional scientific phenomena. He served as vice president of the Planetary Association for Clean Energy (PACE).

Bird traveled widely and spoke many languages, among them Russian, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Serbo-Croat. He had degrees in botany and Eastern Studies.
