Louis Groarke was born in London, England and immigrated to Canada as a child. He finished high school in Calgary, Alberta and attended Colorado State University on an athletic scholarship, graduating with a B.A. with High Honors in art history.

After further work at the University of British Columbia, he was awarded an M.A. and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Waterloo, Ontario. He has published papers in journals such as Humanities, The Journal of Value Inquiry, The Journal of Speculative Philosophy, Ultimate Reality and Meaning, and The American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly. He was recently an Associate of the Northrop Frye Center at Victoria University (University of Toronto) and is presently a member of the philosophy department of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. He has a permanent home in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec.
