The purpose is to show that the equation E = mc^2 was already implicit in Maxwell’s 1861 paper “On Physical Lines of Force” and that it doesn’t mean that mass is equivalent to energy, but rather it relates to the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through a sea of rotating electron-positron dipoles which pervades all of space. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/338816847_The_Positronium_Orbit_in_the_Electron-Positron_Sea
