Chandra Mouli Iyer, known as Chandru Iyer, is an Indian engineer and independent researcher who has written on special relativity and electrodynamics. He is affiliated with Techink Industries in Noida, India, and has published a number of papers examining the Lorentz transformation, the one-way speed of light, and related questions in the foundations of relativity.

Biography

Iyer holds a master's degree in engineering and has spent more than three decades working in industry in design and managerial roles. He is based in Noida, India, where he is associated with Techink Industries. Alongside his professional work, he has maintained a long-standing interest in the subject of relativity, and in particular in special relativity, pursuing the topic through self-study and correspondence with others sharing similar interests. Much of his research has been carried out in collaboration with G. M. Prabhu of Iowa State University.

Scientific contributions

Iyer's writings address the interpretation and internal consistency of special relativity. He has argued that the historical rejection of the Lorentz theory of relativity in favour of the Einsteinian formulation is not sufficiently well founded, and has examined the role of clock synchronization conventions in the appearance of length contraction and time dilation.

His papers include treatments of the decomposition of Lorentz transformations, the ordered addition of Lorentz boosts, the reversal of the time order of interactive events, the clock (twin) paradox, the behaviour of tachyons, and the one-way speed of light. In "A constructive formulation of the one-way speed of light" (with G. M. Prabhu), he presented a formulation in three-dimensional Euclidean space consistent with the Michelson–Morley experiment, showing that the harmonic mean of the light speeds in opposite directions equals c and that a synchronization shift proportional to distance along the line of motion renders the speed constant in all directions.

His work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Physics, the European Journal of Physics, and Physics Essays, as well as in preprints on arXiv. Selected papers include:
