Hans Goodman (born 28 June 1930) is an Australian retired Electrical Engineer and independent researcher based in Thornleigh, New South Wales. After a career in electrical engineering, he devoted more than a decade to independent research into fundamental problems in physics, developing a unifying model of the universe that he set out in his 2009 book The Mindfield: Reinventing Science.

Biography

Goodman worked as an electrical engineer and authored the two-volume educational text Circuit Theory and Techniques, published by John Wiley & Sons in Australia in the 1980s. Following his retirement, he turned to independent study of long-standing questions in physics that he says had puzzled him throughout his life, spending more than ten years developing his own explanatory framework.

Work

Goodman's central idea is presented in his short paper An Introduction to Magna Theory (2009), which he offers as the basis of a broader model, and is developed further in his book The Mindfield: Reinventing Science. He describes the book as presenting "a new unifying model of the universe that is simple, consistent, logical and, above all, understandable," aiming to bring together physical explanations for gravity, planetary motion, magnetism, electricity, atomic structure, relativity and quantum phenomena in non-mathematical language. His related paper Relativity and the Third Observer extends these ideas to questions of relativity. As an independent researcher, his proposals fall outside the mainstream scientific consensus.
