"How I Became a Dissident Peeling Potatoes" is an autobiographical article by Toshiyasu Abe published on 15 August 2019 on Beyond Mainstream.

Abe traces his dissent to a physics lesson at fourteen or fifteen, when he was taught Newton's first law and could not accept it: that a body should continue in motion with nothing sustaining it struck him as requiring a cause that the law declined to supply. He notes that inertia is still explained inconsistently — some hold it is caused by a force, while mainstream physics treats it as a natural tendency requiring none.
