Steven R. Elswick (born 18 June 1955) is an American electrical engineer, editor and publisher who is the founder and president of TeslaTech, Inc. and the editor and publisher of its magazine ExtraOrdinary Technology. A co-founder of the International Tesla Society in 1983, he edited most of that organization's publications — including ExtraOrdinary Science magazine and the Tesla symposium proceedings — before leaving in 1996 to found Exotic Research. Through TeslaTech's publications and its annual ExtraOrdinary Technology Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Elswick has spent four decades providing a platform for independent inventors and researchers working on free-energy, Nikola Tesla-derived and other technologies that mainstream institutions decline to examine.

Biography

Elswick served eight years in the military before attending the University of Colorado, where he received his BSEE and was recognized as the IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Student Member. Shortly afterwards he began working for Sperry (now UNISYS) during the day while pursuing his interest in Tesla and alternative energy at night.

He is based in Queen Valley, Arizona, from which TeslaTech, Inc. operates. In addition to editing and publishing, he hosts a weekly online video program, Steve's Place, covering conference speakers, new research and TeslaTech news.

International Tesla Society

The International Tesla Society was founded in 1983 by Dale Pond, Toby Grotz and Elswick, and was headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado — the city where Tesla conducted his 1899 high-voltage experiments. The society maintained a museum of Tesla photographs and research devices along with a working laboratory, and produced the first International Tesla Symposium there in 1984, marking the centenary of Tesla's arrival in America. Symposia were subsequently held in even-numbered years, and beginning in 1989 ExtraOrdinary Science conferences were held in odd-numbered years.

Elswick was the society's principal editor, producing Tesla magazine, ExtraOrdinary Science magazine and nearly every publication the society issued prior to 1996, including the symposium proceedings. He was named the International Tesla Society's Man of the Year in 1990.

In 1996 Elswick left the society to form Exotic Research, which published the Exotic Research Report and produced its own conferences. The International Tesla Society itself went bankrupt in late 1998 amid internal political struggles; two successor efforts carried its work forward, the International Tesla Institute under J. W. McGinnis and Elswick's own organization.

Exotic Research was unable to weather the financial impact of the September 11, 2001 attacks and the anthrax scare that closely followed, and was forced to close its doors.

TeslaTech and ExtraOrdinary Technology

Starting again from nothing, Elswick bootstrapped a new company, TeslaTech, Inc., and its magazine ExtraOrdinary Technology (later ExtraOrdinary Science & Technology). TeslaTech's stated mission is to support and encourage independent inventors through its publications and conferences, and it describes itself as a resource center for advanced energy concepts and devices, magnetic motors, alternative medicine and health research — material it regards as having been long suppressed from public view.

The organization's mainstay is the annual ExtraOrdinary Technology Conference, held for most of its run at hotels in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Billed as the longest-running conference on Tesla-related and other breakthrough technologies in alternative energy and medicine, it has for more than thirty years brought together researchers, experimenters and inventors working on magnetic motors, zero-point and radiant energy, Brown's gas, GEET fuel processing, low-temperature plasma, electrogravitics, electro-medicine and magnetic healing. Presentations are recorded and distributed through TeslaTech's video archive and store.

In his own editorial writing, Elswick argues that an oil-based economy is a structural vulnerability — "We are captives of an oil-based economy. A severe oil shortage could unravel the fabric of our society" — and advocates decentralized, home-scale energy production, ranging from solar and wind systems and fuel cells in the near term to a revival of Tesla's wireless power transmission in the long term.
