Newton's Revenge: The Restoration of Space and Time, Galilean-Newtonian Relativity in the 21st Century is a book-length treatment of Curt Renshaw's Galilean-Newtonian alternative to relativity. It has been released chapter by chapter online rather than through a commercial publisher, and no ISBN or print edition has been issued.
Argument
The book sets out, from first principles and in lay terms, a Galileo-Newtonian description of electromagnetic radiation — Renshaw's Radiation Continuum Model. He presents this as a simple replacement for Einstein's second postulate on the constancy of the speed of light. From that substitution he argues that the entire basis for special relativity is eliminated, including time dilation, length contraction, relative simultaneity and mass increase with velocity; and that since general relativity rests on special relativity, its foundation is removed along with it. The conclusion Renshaw draws is that the universe behaves according to Galilean-Newtonian ideas of distance, time, velocity and mass after all.
Rather than confining itself to argument, the book works the model through the historical experimental record — Michelson-Morley, Fizeau, Sagnac and the rest — and through the classical tests of general relativity, and proposes observational discriminators by which the two frameworks might be told apart.
Publication history
Draft chapters were posted from around 2009 on Renshaw's site at teleinc.com under the title The Restoration of Space and Time. A revised set of chapters appeared from 2022 under the fuller title Newton's Revenge, with reorganised and renamed chapters, distributed through Academia.edu and his site renshawphysics.com. As of 2026 no publisher has issued the work and it remains available only as free chapter downloads.
