Wingate Augustus Lambertson (June 29, 1920 – May 10, 2010), commonly known as Win Lambertson, was an American ceramic engineer and inventor. After a career in materials research and development at industrial and national laboratories, he devoted his retirement to attempts to extract usable electricity from zero-point energy, developing what he called the WIN process and its "electron dam" (E-dam) device. His energy-conversion claims lie outside the accepted framework of mainstream physics.

Biography

Lambertson was born on June 29, 1920 in Rich Square, North Carolina, to Wingate Augustus Lambertson, Sr. and Grace Stanford Lambertson. He graduated from Rich Square High School in 1936, attended Lees-McRae Junior College from 1936 to 1938, and then studied in North Carolina from 1938 to 1940. He joined the U.S. Navy, traveling the country as an instructor, and married Eileen Hall on April 27, 1945 before completing his Navy service.

He subsequently attended Rutgers University, where he earned his master's degree and Ph.D. in ceramic engineering. While at Rutgers he developed a ceramic coating for boiler-furnace refractories used by the Navy, an invention credited with substantially extending boiler life in the fleet. Lambertson then joined Argonne National Laboratory in the Chicago area, where he worked on refractory problems related to atomic energy. He went on to teach at the University of Toledo, worked for the Carborundum Company in Grand Island, New York, and in 1963 moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to conduct research at Spindletop Research. Over his career he carried out materials research and development for organizations including U.S. Steel, the U.S. Navy, the Universities of Toledo and Rutgers, Argonne National Laboratory, the Carborundum Company and Spindletop, and he served as executive director of Kentucky's Science and Technology Commission.

Lambertson retired to Florida in 1980, where he devoted his time to energy research. He continued reading and writing until the end of his life, and died on May 10, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 89. His wife of 63 years, Eileen, had died earlier the same year, on January 25, 2010. He was survived by three children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Scientific contributions

Lambertson's interest in unconventional energy dated to the mid-1960s, after he read There Is a River, Thomas Sugrue's biography of the psychic Edgar Cayce, which describes the legendary destruction of Atlantis through the misuse of a crystal energy collector. He began experimenting with a crystal-based device in December 1972 but reported that the crystal contributed only a small fraction of the output, and by the mid-1970s he had turned instead to his own expertise in ceramics and metals.

The result was what he called the WIN process — a name he glossed as "World Into Neutrinos" — built around a device he termed the "electron dam" or E-dam. The E-dam consisted of a plate of cermet, a ceramic–metal composite, roughly three inches in diameter and sandwiched between metal plates. Lambertson likened its operation to a hydroelectric dam: an accelerated electrical charge drove a stream of electrons into the cermet, where they were stored much as a dam stores water, and he claimed that on release the electrons gained additional energy drawn from the zero-point energy of the vacuum, yielding more electrical output than was supplied as input. He argued that such small solid-state converters would eventually make the centralized power station obsolete.

Lambertson reported a range of over-unity results over the years, including a calculated figure of 965% in 1994 and yields of 116% to 175% in load studies around 2000. These claims of energy gain in excess of input are not supported by mainstream science, which holds that no device can extract net usable power in this manner, and independent testing of his apparatus attributed some anomalies to the measuring circuitry rather than to the E-dams. Lambertson held several patents from his conventional materials career, including U.S. Patent 3,467,745 (hot-pressed refractory carbide bodies), U.S. Patent 3,205,465 (thermistor assembly) and Canadian Patent 661,137 (semiconductor devices).
