==Work==
García Juliá's principal work concerns the origin of the [[cosmological redshift]], the shift toward longer wavelengths observed in the light of distant galaxies. In place of the standard interpretation, in which the redshift is attributed to the expansion of the universe, he proposes a "tired light" model in which photons gradually lose energy as they travel through space.

In his papers he argues that a single mechanism, based on the interaction between electromagnetic waves, can account for both the cosmological redshift and so-called intrinsic redshifts, without invoking cosmic expansion. In one formulation he suggests that redshift is produced when light interacts with microwave radiation, causing a progressive loss of photon energy with distance. These ideas place his work within the tradition of non-standard, alternative cosmology.
