==Biography==
Van der Velde holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Free University of Amsterdam (VU University Amsterdam). He has described himself as fascinated by the synthesis of science, art and religion, and spent some thirty years as a member of a meditative art centre in France, later residing at Sainte Gemme in France. He has also worked as a senior programmer at M.V. Informatique in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2012 he has worked at the Lucis Trust in Geneva, where he serves as a director.

==Work==
Van der Velde presents developments in modern science from the standpoint of electricity and magnetism, arguing that electrical phenomena play a far more fundamental role in the cosmos than is generally accepted. His work is associated with the [[Electric Universe]] view, which holds that electric currents and plasma are central to the structure and behaviour of stars, galaxies and other astronomical phenomena.

His writings and lectures are collected under the title ''The Electric Bridge'', in which he connects scientific ideas on electricity and magnetism with broader philosophical and esoteric themes. He was among the speakers associated with the Thunderbolts conference "Electric Universe – the Human Story", held in January 2012, one of a series of annual gatherings on Electric Universe themes.
