'''Dalius Balciunas''' is an author who argues that Darwinian natural selection is a physical rather than a purely biological phenomenon. He is listed in ''[[The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists]]''.

==Ideas==
In his essay "Darwinian model of evolution", Balciunas proposes that what Darwin described as natural selection driven by the struggle for existence is in fact a manifestation of the zeroth law of thermodynamics. He contends that when applied to competing self-replicating entities, this thermodynamic principle makes biological evolution a spontaneous physical process tending toward equilibrium structures of highly organized living matter. On this view, natural selection is not confined to living things but also operates in the nonliving world. These proposals lie outside mainstream evolutionary biology.

The essay was posted to viXra and to the General Science Journal (2013). No institutional affiliation is stated in his publications.
