'''Dannel Roberts''' (also credited as '''Dannell Roberts''') is an independent theoretical physicist and inventor who has developed an alternative particle-based model of the atom that he calls the '''key ring atom'''. He is the author of ''Particle Mechanics: The Theory of Energy States'', and presented his work in a sustained series of talks at the ExtraOrdinary Technology Conference between 2013 and 2017. He is not to be confused with the unrelated [[Jack Roberts]] documented elsewhere on this wiki.

==Scientific contributions==

===The key ring atom===
Roberts's work begins from a single universal particle that changes states, with each state having its own purpose and characteristics. From this he builds a mechanical, model-able picture of atomic structure — the key ring atom — which he uses in place of the conventional orbital picture to account for solids, liquids and gases, for chemical bonding, and for the properties of light. In his account of visible light, three particles with differing reflective and absorption properties are sufficient to explain the phenomenon. His book ''Particle Mechanics'' extends the same scheme to sound, electricity, magnetism, heat and cold, and introduces gravity "as a completely new concept."

===Gravity shielding===
Roberts's best-known claim, presented at the 2014 conference, is that gravitational shielding is achievable. He rejects the idea that gravity is a pulling force and argues instead that gravity is a particle that ''pushes'' — gravity particles stream toward and through an atom, so that interrupting the flow interrupts the effect. On his account the key ring atom makes it possible to show mechanically how that flow can be stopped; a device that did so he calls a "gravity cloaking device," which would suppress both gravity and inertia. Roberts states his own position plainly: "I don't believe it is theoretical or hypothetical, but that it has been done for thousands of years," offering it as a possible answer both to how the ancient world moved massive stones over long distances and to how UFOs reported at very high speed can stop instantly and change direction. These are Roberts's claims, presented as his own hypothesis; he described two of what he believes are many possible routes to the effect.

===Magnets and the torus structure===
In 2015 Roberts set aside the standard textbook treatment of magnetism by lines of force and replaced it with a theory of moving particles, which he argues is mechanical and therefore demonstrable with physical models. Starting from particles spinning in a circle and then adding particles spinning at 90 degrees, a torus structure emerges; placing two such torus structures side by side, he argues, shows that magnets do not attract and repel by two different forces but rather "push themselves together and push themselves apart." He has offered the analogy of a boomerang for the underlying motion, and demonstrated the theory at the conference with large-scale working models. Roberts raises the question of whether the same torus mechanics operate at solar, galactic and universal scales.

===The Rohner Effect and the Roberts Rotary Engine===
Roberts invented a rotary engine to work with a discovery by Bob Rohner, in which a sealed chamber of mixed noble gases subjected to a specific electrical charge produces an electrical discharge with a small, fast expansion — with, according to their reports, no heat in the gas and none transferred to the chamber walls, and with the gas expanding only to a certain size regardless of load. Roberts and Rohner reported building and testing four models of the Roberts Rotary Engine plus several piston devices, and stated that no hot gas was ever encountered; their working suggestion is that the noble gases are changing to a liquid. Roberts reported that the engine accelerates from 0 to 1800 RPM in a single plasma expansion, yielding four and a quarter revolutions from one discharge, shown at the 2017 conference in high-speed footage. The engine was presented in ''ExtraOrdinary Science & Technology'' (Vol. 1 No. 1, Jan/Feb/Mar 2015) under the heading "The Key Ring Atom... Validated by the Roberts Rotary Engine!"
