'''Erich Schulte Berge''' (13 September 1927 – 1 October 2018) was a German jurist, composer and author who, alongside his literary and legal career, wrote self-published works challenging the theory of relativity. He also used the pen name Michael Bergstedt. He is listed in ''[[The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists]]''.

==Life==
Schulte Berge was born in Einen (now part of Warendorf) in Westphalia. He studied law in Münster from 1947 to 1953 and worked as a justice inspector in Münster and later as a court official in Marl before returning to Warendorf-Einen in 1994. He was also active as a composer. His prolific self-published output, spanning from 1959 to 2010, included poetry, philosophical treatises and plays with music as well as scientific writings. He is recorded in the ''Lexikon Westfälischer Autorinnen und Autoren'' (Lexicon of Westphalian Authors).

==Ideas==
In 1970 Schulte Berge published ''Die entbehrliche Relativitätstheorie. Ein Versuch, die Sache einfacher zu erklären'' ("The expendable theory of relativity. An attempt to explain the matter more simply"), in which he argued that the phenomena described by Einstein's relativity could be accounted for in simpler terms and that the theory was therefore dispensable. He wrote further self-published pieces on related topics such as the Doppler effect, the structure of matter and atomic physics. His views on relativity fall outside the scientific mainstream.
