==Vethathiri model==&lt;br /&gt;
In a separate line of work Ramanujam sought to express the cosmological ideas of the Indian philosopher Vethathiri Maharishi in physical terms. In this framework space is treated as an all-pervading substance carrying potential energy, with a property of self-compression and surrounding pressure. Self-compression is said to produce spinning quanta of space (termed &amp;quot;formative dust&amp;quot;), whose spin and mutual pressure are used to account for gravity, mass and inertia. These proposals fall outside mainstream physics, which does not treat space as a compressible material substance of this kind.&lt;br /&gt;
