'''Kun Yan''' (Yan Kun) is a Chinese researcher associated with the Xi'an Modern Nonlinear Science Applying Institute, known for his work on fractal mathematics applied to physics and geophysics. He is listed in ''[[The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists]]''.

==Work==
Yan has developed what he calls a "background medium theory" of celestial-body motion and has proposed analytical equations describing the tendency of stable nuclides. His papers introduce a fractional-dimension ("fractal") calculus that he applies to the structure of the cosmos, to the relationship between neutrons and protons in atomic nuclei, and to what he describes as superluminal-velocity motion laws of matter in geospace. Several of these works appeared in the Chinese journal ''Progress in Geophysics'' (2004 and 2006), and further papers are collected in the General Science Journal.

His proposals, including his treatment of superluminal motion and his self-similar fractal-measure formalism, lie outside the mainstream framework of physics and geophysics.
