Costinel Lepadatu is a Romanian researcher in theoretical and quantum chemistry known for heterodox work on the foundations of quantum theory and gravitation. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Background
Lepadatu graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Bucharest and later became a senior researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy, working in quantum (theoretical) chemistry, coordination chemistry, molecular spectroscopy and magnetism. He is listed as a member of the Romanian Humboldt Club.
Ideas
Alongside his conventional chemistry research, Lepadatu has published on the foundations of physics in non-mainstream venues. His paper "Quantum Theory as a Space-Time Theory" appeared in the Journal of Theoretics. In related work, "The Gravity as a Longitudinal Field" (2004, with Serban Lepadatu), he argues that the wave equation for massless particles admits a longitudinal vector-potential solution which, interacting with rest-mass particles, yields a potential energy identical in form to Newtonian gravitation. These proposals — treating gravitation as a longitudinal field and deriving quantum structure from space-time geometry — lie outside the accepted framework of quantum mechanics and general relativity.
