John K. Harms (born July 3, 1959) is an American independent researcher and self-taught theorist known within the dissident science community for his alternative models of gravity, darkness, and planetary expansion. He publishes his ideas through his personal website of scientific visualizations and has presented his work on gravity internationally.
Biography
Harms was born on July 3, 1959, and later resided in Bastrop, Texas. He began studying physics on his own in December 1985 while living in California, reading extensively from local libraries and building a personal collection of physics books. He continued this self-directed study over subsequent years, following the physics literature closely, including listening to audio recordings on the subject while working. During this period he developed the ideas he came to call his "darkness" theories, along with related models of gravity and planetary expansion.
In 2000, Harms was invited to St. Petersburg, Russia, to present his ideas on gravity in person; the visit took place on July 3, 2000.
Scientific contributions
Harms's work centers on a set of interrelated proposals concerning gravity, the nature of darkness, and the growth of planets. His writings on these topics are collected on his personal website.
Gravity
Harms proposes that gravitation arises from radiation pressure produced by red-shifted, long-wavelength quanta emitted by all objects in the universe, together with residual radiation from the Big Bang. Within this framework he presents what he describes as a unifying Newtonian "wave" formulation of the gravitational constant.
Darkness
Beginning in 1999, Harms developed a series of hypotheses on darkness and blackness, including an infrared-wavelength hypothesis and a "photon hole" concept. In his model, regions where the background radiation is absent constitute "photon holes," which he associates with matter and, in later work, with neutrinos.
Planetary expansion
Harms suggests that photons may be absorbed by the cores of planets and that neutrinos originating from the Sun collect in regions where radiation is absent. As a planet increases in size and density, he argues, an increasing amount of neutrino energy becomes trapped within it, causing the planet to grow larger over time from the inside outward. His paper "Neutrinos as photon holes" (2006) explores the proposed identification of photon holes with neutrinos.
These proposals lie outside the mainstream scientific consensus in physics and cosmology.
