Andreas Otte (born June 7, 1967) is a German computer scientist known for his involvement in the Electric Universe and plasma cosmology community. He holds a master's degree in computer science and is a longtime investigator of alternative and fringe theories in chronology, catastrophism, and astrophysics.
Biography
Otte holds a master's degree in computer science and works for a small information-technology company in Paderborn, Germany, where he specializes in designing and implementing applications based on Oracle technologies. He resides in Oerlinghausen, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Otte describes a lifelong interest in locating and analysing fringe theories, favouring those he regards as having strong internal consistency, acceptable assumptions, and high explanatory capability. His interest in chronology, catastrophism, and the Electric Universe began around 2000, when he encountered references to the works of Immanuel Velikovsky. This led him to the writings of David Talbott, Wal Thornhill, Herbert Illig, Gunnar Heinsohn, and others.
Work
Otte's research centres on the application of Electric Universe and plasma-cosmology ideas to fields such as geology and chronology. Meeting geologist Michael Steinbacher at the 2011 Natural Philosophy Alliance conference drew his attention to the question of how the Electric Universe model might reshape thinking about Earth's geology, a topic he has since presented on as "plasma catastrophist geology."
At the 2016 Electric Universe conference he met Edo Kaal, whose atomic model became a further focus of his work. Otte contributed written reports on Electric Universe conferences to the German publication Zeitensprünge. He attended the 2018 Bath conference and in 2019 formally joined the team developing the Structured Atom Model (SAM), an alternative model of atomic structure associated with the Electric Universe community. He is also listed among the contributors to the Ethereal Matters project.
