Raymond Kromrey was a French-German-Swiss inventor based in Geneva, Switzerland, who is known for an unconventional electric generator design often referred to as the Kromrey converter or Kromrey generator. His device has since been discussed within the alternative-energy and New Energy communities, where it is sometimes described as a G-field generator similar in concept to the De Palma N-Machine and the Howard Johnson permanent-magnetic motor.

Biography

Kromrey lived and worked in Geneva, Switzerland, at 15 Rue du Mont-Blanc. On January 9, 1964 he filed a United States patent application for an electric generator, and U.S. Patent 3,374,376, titled "Electric Generator," was granted to him on March 19, 1968.

Work

Kromrey's patented generator was designed to convert magnetic force into electrical energy using two relatively rotatable members, a stator and a rotor. One member carries electromagnetic or permanent-magnetic means intended to induce a voltage in a winding carried by the other member. The rotor employs axially spaced parallel elongated ferromagnetic elements that pass through the magnetic fields produced by pole pairs in the stator, and the magnetic circuit is intermittently completed so that the rotating armatures undergo periodic remagnetization with successive reversals of polarity.

According to the patent description, a distinguishing feature of the design is that it maintains a relatively constant output voltage and torque across a range of rotor speeds. The patent reports that when rotor speed was reduced to about one-third, the terminal voltage fell only to roughly half its original value, a slower decline than that of a conventional generator. Depending on the collector configuration—slip rings or a commutator—the device can deliver alternating or direct current.

The Kromrey converter later attracted attention among free-energy researchers, including John Bedini, who documented circuit diagrams and operating theories associated with the device and popularized the term "G-field generator." Claims that the device produces more energy than is supplied to it (so-called overunity or "free energy") are not accepted by mainstream physics and engineering and remain unverified.
