David P. Goodwin is an American physical scientist and engineer who has worked for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) since 1986, principally within the Offices of High Energy Physics and Nuclear Physics.
Biography
Goodwin has spent his career as a physical scientist and engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy, which he joined in 1986. His work has been based largely in the DOE Offices of High Energy Physics and Nuclear Physics. He resides in Ashburn, Virginia.
Work
Goodwin is known for his knowledge of developments in fission and fusion energy, including the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Within the Office of High Energy Physics, he was involved in providing government funding for the research that led to the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe, the phenomenon now attributed to dark energy.
