Gary W. Elsesser (born 1959) is an American mathematician and computer scientist specializing in compiler optimization for parallel and vector supercomputers. He is interested in developing computer simulations of the atom based on Common Sense Science models.
Biography
Elsesser earned a BS in mathematics and computer science and an MS in computer science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, followed by a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Minnesota. His research career has focused on compiler technology for high-performance computing.
Early in his career he worked at the Honeywell Technology Center in Minneapolis. He subsequently spent thirteen years at Cray, Inc., where he served as a senior member of the technical staff, conducting compiler research and development and working regularly with Cray X1 systems. He resides in Eagan, Minnesota.
Work
Elsesser's professional research concerns compiler optimizations for parallel and vector machines, with a strong background in programming languages and software design. His published work includes studies of DOALL loops in the Perfect Club benchmark, processor preallocation and load balancing of DOALL loops, and the definition of the F−− extension to Fortran 90.
Outside his professional field, Elsesser has expressed an interest in developing computer simulations of the atom based on the toroidal ring models advocated by Common Sense Science.
