Shui-Qing Wu (Chinese: 吴水清; pinyin: Wú Shuǐqīng; born August 1941 in Dongzhi, Anhui Province, China) is a Chinese researcher, science editor and historian of science. He is best known outside China as the founder and president of the Beijing Relativity Research Association (北京相对论研究联谊会), a large association of Chinese critics of Einstein's theory of relativity.

Biography

Wu Shui-Qing graduated in 1965 from the Department of Chemical Engineering of Hefei University of Technology. He subsequently worked as a technician and engineer in research institutes attached to the First Ministry of Machine Building, including the Guilin Electrical Apparatus Scientific Research Institute, and later in the Guangxi industry and transport administration and at the State Science and Technology Commission.

He later joined the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he became an associate research fellow and associate senior editor, and where he took part in work associated with the Beijing Electron–Positron Collider project. At the Institute he served as editor-in-chief of the popular-science magazine Modern Physics Knowledge (《现代物理知识》) and as director of its editorial department, and he led a research topic on the history of science.

Wu has also worked as a deputy editor-in-chief of the pictorial Zhonghua Jinxiu (《中华锦绣》) and has served on the editorial boards of several Chinese scientific and technical periodicals.

Work

From 2000 Wu was associated with the Lu He-Fu Institute of Ge-Wu, named after the physicist Lu Hefu (卢鹤绂), serving as a research fellow and deputy director, as head of the institute's Beijing working department, and as leader of its research group on the history of science and on relativity. He has also held editorial positions with overseas Chinese-language science periodicals.

In 2002 Wu founded the Beijing Relativity Research Association, which he presented as a continuation of earlier Chinese study groups critical of relativity. The association grew to some one thousand members, among them researchers connected with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and organised conferences and publications devoted to criticism of special and general relativity and to alternative theories in physics. In 2021 the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs declared the association an unregistered social organisation and banned it.

Wu has published a large number of scholarly and popular-science articles in Chinese and overseas periodicals, chiefly on the history of modern physics and on the foundations of relativity theory.
