Fred H. Thaheld is a researcher known for proposing that quantum entanglement and nonlocality may operate at the biological level, and for speculative experiments built on that idea. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Ideas
Thaheld argues that entanglement and nonlocal correlations, usually discussed for elementary particles, might extend to living systems such as neurons and spatially separated human subjects. In a 2006 preprint he proposed "A new empirical approach in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence: Astrobiological nonlocality at the cosmological level," suggesting that biological quantum effects could form the basis of a novel SETI strategy and raising the question of whether controllable superluminal communication might be possible. He has also written on the measurement problem, addressing whether consciousness is required to collapse the quantum wave function.
These proposals lie well outside the scientific mainstream, which does not accept that macroscopic biological systems sustain the entanglement or superluminal signalling that Thaheld invokes.
