Peter Martinson is an American researcher, writer, and science educator associated with the LaRouche movement's science team, sometimes known as "The Basement," and a contributor to and editor of 21st Century Science & Technology Magazine. His work centers on the history of science, particularly the discoveries of Johannes Kepler and Carl Friedrich Gauss, and on the physical principles underlying living processes.
Biography
Martinson has been active in the LaRouche Youth Movement's scientific research group, which pursued original studies in the history of science, physics, and biology. In this capacity he has served as a website content developer and managing editor for 21st Century Science & Technology, and he has appeared as a guest on The LaRouche Show Internet radio program to discuss science and its relationship to economic and cultural questions.
Work
Martinson's writing revisits foundational scientific discoveries and their epistemological implications. He has presented studies of Kepler's Harmonices Mundi, including an interpretation of its fourth book as a possible basis for investigating rhythmic activity in living organisms, a text more commonly cited as evidence of Kepler's mysticism. His biological writing addresses involuntary rhythmic processes common to organisms, arguing that these cannot be explained solely by internal "clock" mechanisms or by purely external influences, and connects them to questions of the anti-entropic development of life. He has also examined the ability of organisms such as migratory birds and butterflies to sense weak magnetic fields.
His articles for 21st Century Science & Technology include studies of Gauss and a piece titled "Where Your Computers Really Came From," which traces the intellectual origins of computation.
