F. Gustavo Criscuolo is a physicist known for work on the foundations of quantum mechanics, in particular an argument that the strict application of conservation laws to individual quantum processes could, in principle, allow superluminal communication. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
In collaboration with M. E. Burgos (and, in one case, Thomas L. Etter), Criscuolo analyzed the tension between conservation laws and quantum mechanics. Using a thought experiment, the authors argued that if the individual interpretation of the quantum state is valid and conservation of angular momentum holds in every process for which the external torque is zero, then it would be possible to construct a "machine of the first type" capable of superluminal signalling. This conclusion, which challenges the standard view that quantum mechanics forbids faster-than-light communication, places the work outside the mainstream of physics.
