Christopher J. Arnold is an American inventor known for a patented "pulsed plasma drive" electromagnetic motor-generator and for related claims concerning energy production and nanodiamond synthesis. His work is associated with the Electric Universe and free-energy communities and lies outside the scientific mainstream.
Biography
Arnold is an independent inventor based in the United States. Public records of his activity are drawn primarily from his patent filings and from online forums and promotional material dating to the early 2000s. Beyond his patents and self-published claims, little verifiable biographical detail is documented.
Work
In 1998 Arnold filed a patent application for an electromagnetic motor and generator built around what he termed a pulsed plasma commutator. The device was described as combining a bipolar magnetic rotor of high-energy permanent magnets with a commutator designed to permit, rather than suppress, electrical sparking, so as to generate a plasma discharge and an adjacent coil intended to recapture radiated energy. The patent, US 6,271,614 B1, "Pulsed plasma drive electromagnetic motor generator," was filed on November 15, 1999 (priority date November 20, 1998) and issued on August 7, 2001.
Arnold and associates subsequently promoted the device under the name PlasmaKing Corporation, and around 2004 solicited private investment for its commercialization. In forum postings he asserted that the technology could produce large volumes of hydrogen from oil, remediate toxic waste, convert oil and coal to methane for low-emission power generation, and generate so-called "zero point" or free energy. These claims were met with skepticism in the online free-energy and cold-fusion communities and have not been independently verified or reproduced.
By around 2007 Arnold was applying the same device to the production of what he called "non-detonation" nanodiamonds. A later patent, US 10,406,500 (published as application US 2017/0368527 A1 on December 28, 2017, and granted September 10, 2019), titled "Composition comprising nucleated nanodiamond particles," describes producing nanodiamond by exposing carbonaceous feedstock to a dense-plasma-focus discharge, yielding particles said to be substantially spherical and free of graphite and detonation-carbon contaminants. The patent references the earlier US 6,271,614 device as the plasma source.
Reception
Arnold's energy claims, particularly those describing over-unity or "free" energy output, are inconsistent with the conservation of energy and are not accepted by mainstream science. Contemporary commentators noted his use of superlative marketing language and his requests for investment and viewing fees, and his claims remained a subject of dispute in free-energy discussion forums.
