Gerald W. Simonson is an American businessman and engineer who is best known within dissident-science circles as a patron and producer of documentary films promoting the Electric Universe model of cosmology. He is the longtime president of Omnetics Connector Corporation, a Minnesota manufacturer of microminiature electrical connectors, and has served as a director of a number of publicly traded and private companies.
Biography
Simonson has spent his career in the electrical and electronics industry in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area, where he resides in the suburb of Edina. He is the president of Omnetics Connector Corporation, a manufacturer of ultra-miniature, high-reliability connectors and cable assemblies for the medical, aerospace, defense, space and robotics markets.
He has served on the boards of directors of numerous public and private companies. In 1978 he was elected a director of IKONICS Corporation (formerly Chromaline Corporation) of Duluth, Minnesota, on whose board he served for more than two decades and was recognized as an "audit committee financial expert." Following IKONICS Corporation's 2021 merger, he was associated with its successor, TeraWulf Inc., as a board member.
Work
Beyond his business career, Simonson became a benefactor of the Electric Universe movement, an alternative cosmological framework that holds that electricity and plasma, rather than gravity alone, are the dominant organizing forces in the universe. He financed and produced a series of documentary and educational films distributed by the Thunderbolts Project, the organization founded by Wallace Thornhill and David Talbott to promote the concept.
Simonson is credited on Thunderbolts Project productions such as the DVD Thunderbolts the Tutorial. His financial and organizational support, together with that of Bruce Mainwaring and Elizabeth Buntrock, was acknowledged by Thornhill and Talbott as having been indispensable to the completion of their book The Electric Universe and the earlier monograph Thunderbolts of the Gods.
