Alexander R. Karimov is a Russian plasma physicist associated with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow. In addition to his research on plasma dynamics, he has published a heterodox theoretical proposal on the nature of time. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Karimov's mainstream research is in plasma physics, including work on nonlinear plasma flows, wave–particle interaction and plasma acceleration in crossed magnetic fields.
In the paper A Model of Discrete-Continuum Time for a Simple Physical System (Progress in Physics, Vol. 2, 2008), he proposes a description of time as having both discrete and continuous aspects and draws an analogy between time and temperature. This treatment of time departs from its standard role in physics as a smooth, continuous background parameter, which is the basis for its inclusion among heterodox contributions.
