Alexandr B. Tashyrev (O. B. Tashyrev) is a Ukrainian microbiologist at the D. K. Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv, where he works on the interaction of microorganisms with metals and extremophilic microorganisms. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Work

Tashyrev is a co-author, with V. I. Vysotskii and A. A. Kornilova, of experiments reporting the claimed transmutation and accelerated "deactivation" of isotopes in growing biological cultures. This work reports the alleged conversion of the radioactive isotope Cs-137 to non-radioactive isotopes, and the transmutation of stable isotopes in the iron mass region, in metabolically active microbial cultures, characterized using Mössbauer and mass spectrometry.

Claims of biological or microbial transmutation and of low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR) in living cells are not accepted by the mainstream scientific community, which regards them as inconsistent with established nuclear physics.
