Andrei L. Sanin is a Russian theoretical physicist affiliated with the Department of Theoretical Physics at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. He is known for his work on quantum electron hydrodynamics. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Sanin's research applies a hydrodynamic formulation of quantum mechanics, based on the Madelung equations coupled to Maxwell's equations for the electromagnetic field, to the behaviour of electrons. He has studied the space-time evolution of single-electron wave packets in one-dimensional systems, examining the resulting probability-density structures, Fourier spectra, and features he associates with quantum chaos, as well as quantum electron transport in the presence of a homogeneous positive charge and an optical wave. This deterministic, hydrodynamic reading of quantum dynamics places parts of his program outside the conventional statistical interpretation of quantum mechanics, which is why de Climont classes it as an alternative theory.
