Andrew A. Snelling (Dr.) is a geologist and prominent young-earth creationist, currently Director of Research at Answers in Genesis. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Background
Snelling holds a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Sydney (1982) and worked as a professional geologist, including in mineral and uranium exploration, before becoming a full-time advocate of creation science. He has been a leading figure in creationist geology through organisations such as the Institute for Creation Research, Creation Ministries International and Answers in Genesis, where he edits the Answers Research Journal.
Ideas
Snelling promotes a young-earth interpretation of geology and cosmology in which the Earth and universe were created only thousands of years ago. Among the topics de Climont's directory associates with him is his commentary on the apparent "galaxy-quasar connection" between the galaxy NGC 4319 and the quasar Markarian 205—a discordant-redshift case highlighted by astronomer Halton Arp—which Snelling and other creationists cite as a challenge to conventional cosmological distance and redshift interpretations. These views lie well outside the scientific mainstream, which regards Markarian 205 as a background object seen through NGC 4319.
