Bernard Lempel is a French astronomy author and website author known for his advocacy of alternative, non–Big Bang cosmology, especially the work of Halton Arp on quasars and discordant redshifts. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Lempel maintains a website presenting and defending Halton Arp's interpretation of "Arp objects" — cases in which high-redshift quasars appear physically associated with nearby low-redshift galaxies — which Arp took as evidence that quasar redshifts are intrinsic rather than cosmological, contradicting the standard expanding-universe interpretation. Lempel has also written a biography of the cosmologist Jayant Narlikar. His site is cited by French amateur-astronomy circles (including a Société astronomique de France report) as a source on the Arp–redshift controversy. These positions run counter to the mainstream cosmological consensus, which attributes quasar redshifts to cosmic expansion.
