Biswaranjan Dikshit is a physicist known for proposing an alternative "new concept of light." He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Work

Dikshit is a scientist associated with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, where his applied work is in the area of tunable-laser applications. Alongside this work he has published papers advancing unconventional interpretations of foundational physics in the journal Physics Essays. In "A new concept of light: Solving the problems of invariance of speed of light and wave-particle duality" (2011), he argues that the invariance of the speed of light can emerge as a natural consequence, and that wave and particle behaviour can be described in a single picture, under a proposed concept of "reaction-at-a-distance" in which light does not propagate through the intervening space between source and detector. In a companion paper he attempts to derive the Lorentz transformation equations from this concept. These proposals depart from the standard interpretation of special relativity and quantum theory and have appeared in a journal outside the physics mainstream.
