Chris O. Hawkings is a researcher known for an early wave model of matter proposing that particles have an electromagnetic origin. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
With R. M. Hawkings, he presented a poster titled "Could Matter and Matter Waves be Derivable?" at the Sixth National Congress of the Australian Institute of Physics in August 1984, giving his affiliation as Merici College in Braddon, Australian Capital Territory. The work proposes that matter is composed of two continuous electromagnetic waves, one propagating outward from a source and one propagating inward to a sink. In this picture a particle at rest forms a spherical standing wave with concentric shells of alternating energy density, while a particle in motion undergoes Doppler shifts that reproduce relativistic behaviour and de Broglie matter-wave properties.
He argues that the similarity in behaviour between matter and radiation suggests that matter may have an electromagnetic origin. These ideas are cited alongside later Wave Structure of Matter (WSM) proposals and lie outside mainstream particle physics, which does not treat particles as classical standing electromagnetic waves.
