Claude R. Cahen is an author known for proposing that gravitation is an apparent effect produced by the continual proportional expansion of all celestial bodies. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Ideas
In the paper "The Proportional Expansion of Each and Every Celestial Body as the Cause of Gravitation" (Physics Essays, Volume 6, pages 473–486, 1993), Cahen argued that gravity is not an active attractive force but an "apparent, fictitious force" generated by the geometric radial expansion of every heavenly body in the universe. He introduced a "universal constant of expansion" and suggested that the differing densities of the Earth's mantle and crust produce a slightly heterogeneous expansion of the planet. He returned to the subject in a later Physics Essays article in 2023. These ideas belong to the "expanding Earth" tradition and lie outside mainstream physics, which explains gravitation through general relativity and does not accept an expanding Earth.
