Conrad Schneiker is a researcher and inventor known for early work on nanotechnology and "scanning tunneling engineering," and for questioning the foundations of Einstein's special and general relativity. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
In the 1980s Schneiker proposed using the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) not merely as an imaging instrument but as a tool to manipulate individual atoms, an approach he termed "scanning tunneling engineering." He described the STM as a realization of the atom-manipulating "Feynman machine" and, with anesthesiologist and consciousness researcher Stuart Hameroff, outlined multi-tip STM systems intended as "nanotechnology workstations." His paper "Scanning tunnelling engineering" appeared in the Journal of Microscopy in 1988, and related material was published in the volume Molecular Electronics and Biocomputers. He collaborated with Hameroff on the book project Ultimate Computing and holds patents relating to tunneling transducers.
He is the owner and manager of Athena Lab, LLC.
Ideas
Schneiker has also written on physics beyond his nanotechnology work, arguing in the piece "Does Einstein's Quantum Vindication Undermine Special and General Relativity" that relativity is "too general and too relativistic" and will be radically revised. These relativity-critical views lie outside the scientific mainstream and are the reason for his inclusion in de Climont's directory.
