Dmitry S. Strebkov is a Russian engineer and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences associated with the All-Russian Research Institute for Electrification of Agriculture (VIESH). He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists for his work on unconventional methods of transmitting electrical power. He has also published extensively on mainstream solar photovoltaics and agricultural energy supply.

Work

Under Strebkov's direction, VIESH developed and patented experimental single-wire electric power systems (SWEPS), which the group presents as a modern realization and extension of Nikola Tesla's ideas on resonant power transmission. The systems use a frequency converter and a Tesla transformer at the generating end to produce high-frequency reactive current, transmit it along a single conductor operating in a resonant mode (with frequencies reported in the range of roughly 3–30 kHz), and convert it back to conventional electricity with a reversed Tesla transformer at the load. Reported prototypes were tested at 230 V, 10 kV and 100 kV, and the group experimented with a variety of conductor materials. Strebkov has also proposed applications such as accumulator-free vehicles powered from a buried single-wire line. The group characterizes aspects of the technique as "quasi-superconductive"; the strong efficiency and loss claims made for single-wire resonant transmission lie outside mainstream power-engineering practice.
