Frederic N. Rounds is a researcher known for an experimental report of anomalous weight behavior in high-temperature superconductors, work associated with claims of gravity shielding. He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
In a 1997 preprint, "Anomalous Weight Behavior in YBa2Cu3O7 Compounds at Low Temperature," Rounds described weighing YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) superconductor samples on an electronic balance while they warmed from about 77 K in the presence of a magnet and liquid nitrogen. He reported unexpected variations in the measured system weight that appeared to depend on temperature and possibly other parameters. The report is often cited in connection with Eugene Podkletnov's claims of gravity or gravitational shielding by rotating superconductors. These claims lie outside the scientific mainstream and have not been independently confirmed.
