Strange Phenomena: A Sourcebook of Unusual Natural Phenomena is a two-volume compilation (1974) by the physicist and science writer William R Corliss, published by his own Sourcebook Project.
Overview
The volumes are among the first of Corliss's long series of "sourcebooks," collecting reports of unusual natural phenomena — anomalies of geophysics, meteorology, and geology — drawn almost entirely from the scientific journal literature. In the manner of Charles Fort (but with a scientist's restraint), Corliss reprints the original reports with minimal editorial comment, letting the anomalies "speak for themselves," so that phenomena which do not fit accepted theory are preserved and made accessible for study.
About the author
William R. Corliss (1926–2011) was an American physicist and science writer who, for more than three decades, catalogued reports of scientific anomalies through his Sourcebook Project, culminating in the multi-volume Catalog of Anomalies. Inspired by Charles Fort, he sought to document — rigorously and from mainstream sources — phenomena at the edge of, or beyond, established science.
