Duff Smith is an American evolutionary biologist based in Ocala, Florida, known for relating the Expanding Earth hypothesis to the surface gravity experienced by terrestrial life.

Biography

While pursuing an evolutionary biology degree at Purdue University in 1990, Smith began thinking about life on Earth in terms of its gravitational context.

Work

Smith holds that terrestrial life is shaped by Earth's surface gravity, and that whether or not one regards that gravity as a constant, unchanging influence since the origin of life, life would not have taken the same form if the surface gravity of Earth had been different. He connects this reasoning to the Expanding Earth hypothesis, which proposes that the radius of the Earth — and therefore its surface gravity — has changed over geological time.
