Volodymyr V. Krasnoholovets is a Ukrainian theoretical physicist based at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv. His principal area of expertise is condensed matter physics, but he is also known within alternative-physics circles for developing a "submicroscopic mechanics" of physical space, together with the associated concepts of the tessellattice and of hypothetical particles he named inertons.

Biography

Krasnoholovets studied theoretical physics at the Faculty of Physics of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 1974 to 1979. In 1979 he joined the Department of Superconductivity of the Institute of Metal Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine as an engineer researcher, remaining there until 1981.

In 1981 he moved to the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he has worked ever since, advancing from senior engineer researcher (1981–1985) to junior research associate (1985–1991), research associate (1991–1993) and, from 1993, senior research scientist. In 1987 he defended a doctoral thesis in solid state physics, entitled "On the Mechanism of Proton Conductivity Along a Quasi-isolated Molecular Chain of Hydrogen Bonds", under the supervision of Professor Petro M. Tomchuk.

Between 1998 and 2003 Krasnoholovets collaborated with the French mathematician Professor Michel Bounias (died 2003), with whom he developed a mathematical theory of real physical space based on set theory, topology and fractal geometry. In 2006 he co-founded Indra Scientific, a company headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, which pursues applied uses of his ideas.

Scientific contributions

Krasnoholovets's specialty is condensed matter physics, and his early research addressed proton conductivity in hydrogen-bonded systems, the function of bacteriorhodopsin, and cluster formation. He is best known, however, for a body of work he calls "submicroscopic mechanics", an attempt to construct the foundations of physics by combining condensed matter physics with quantum theory.

In this framework, real space is treated as a tessellation of primordial cells (variously described as balls or superparticles), which he terms the tessellattice, regarded as the elementary building blocks of nature. A canonical particle is modeled as a local deformation of the tessellattice. According to the theory, when such a deformation moves through the densely packed tessellattice it generates a cloud of elementary excitations surrounding the particle. Krasnoholovets named these excitations inertons, asserting that they carry the mass and inert properties of the moving object and mediate a short-range interaction between material bodies. He proposes that inertons form a physical field around all objects, from elementary particles to stars, which he presents as a fundamental field alongside the electromagnetic field, and from which he attempts to derive gravity as the transfer of local deformations of space.

These ideas fall outside the mainstream of accepted physics; the existence of inertons and the inerton field has not been established by the wider scientific community.
