Ram Gopal Vishwakarma is an Indian-born theoretical physicist based in Mexico, known for his research on the foundational problems of gravitation, cosmology, and astrophysics. He is a professor in the Unidad Académica de Matemáticas (Academic Unit of Mathematics) at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas "Francisco García Salinas" in Zacatecas, Mexico.

Vishwakarma is a professor and researcher at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas in Zacatecas, Mexico. Of Indian nationality, he has worked in Mexico on theoretical problems in gravitation and cosmology. His work has been widely cited in the scientific literature.

Scientific contributions

Vishwakarma's research concerns the foundational problems of general relativity and cosmology. A central theme of his work is Mach's principle and its implications for general relativity, based on the view that spacetime has no independent existence without a material background. He has argued that incorporating this principle helps address a number of long-standing problems in conventional formulations of general relativity and cosmology.

His cosmological research includes studies of the cosmological constant and dark energy, in particular models in which the cosmological term Λ decays with the energy density, and their consequences for observations such as type Ia supernovae, compact radio sources, and the angular size–redshift relation. He has also explored the use of the Lanczos tensor field to account for the flat rotation curves of galaxies within general relativity without invoking dark matter, and has discussed new solutions of Einstein's vacuum field equations.
