Peter Kohut (born November 3, 1954) is a Slovak engineer, independent researcher and natural philosopher. Drawing on the dialectical logic of Hegel, he has developed a dialectical interpretation of cosmology in which the Universe is held to be built from elementary "quantum dipoles" and governed by a "unity principle" linking matter, energy, space and consciousness. He is an author affiliated with the Natural Philosophy Alliance (NPA), later the Chappell Natural Philosophy Society (CNPS).
Biography
Kohut is a Slovak citizen who completed a Ph.D. in economic cybernetics at the Moscow Institute of Management. Trained as an engineer (Ing.), his study of cybernetics and informatics led him to conclude that composite structures can be built from two differing states, which turned his attention toward the question of the elementary structural unit of the Universe. This search drew him from cybernetics into philosophy, and he has stated that Hegel's dialectical logic and Science of Logic helped him to formulate what he calls the bipolar essence of matter.
Kohut lives in the village of Maly Saris in eastern Slovakia, near Presov. He married his wife Alena in 1992 and has two daughters, Kristina and Barbora. Outside his research his interests include classical and popular music; he plays guitar and piano and enjoys singing.
Scientific contributions
Kohut's work applies dialectical logic to fundamental physics and cosmology. He proposes the elementary "quantum dipole" as the basic structural unit of the Universe, describing it as the fundamental constituent of every form of matter and interaction and, at the same time, the carrier of an elementary unit of space representing the relation of anti-poles. From this he develops a "unity principle," according to which the Universe is a dialectical unity of finiteness and infinity and in which, he argues, everything is connected with everything else, each quantum dipole being related to all others. He further holds that matter (energy) and space form a unity, so that matter is spatial and space is material, both being built from the same basic units.
On this basis Kohut has published papers challenging aspects of mainstream physics, including critiques of special relativity, the derivation of E=mc2, the existence of black holes, and the interpretation of the accelerating expansion of the Universe. He argues that contemporary theoretical physics is in crisis and that dialectical reasoning is required to uncover the true nature of the Universe. His monograph God and the Universe: Revolution in Knowledge (2011) summarizes these results. His papers have appeared on preprint and open-repository platforms such as the General Science Journal, viXra and ResearchGate.
Kohut's views are outside the scientific mainstream and are not generally accepted within the physics community.
