Mike Emery (born 7 July 1948), who writes as C. M. Emery, is an American independent researcher and writer on alternative physics and spirituality. Describing himself as a "spiritual physicist" and "Montana cowboy", he is known for a body of self-published essays developing what he calls the Uniform Field Concept, an aether-based cosmology that seeks to unite ideas drawn from physics, religion and meditation. His work falls outside mainstream science and is not accepted by the scientific community.
Biography
Emery grew up on a ranch in Montana, where he worked as a cowboy and competed in rodeo, and was also a competitive skier. He studied physics at Montana State University in Bozeman. Over the course of his life he worked in commercial fishing and, during the era of oil exploration in Alaska, owned several business enterprises there. His interests later moved through free energy research, healing, meditation, anti-aging and complementary medicine before turning to physics and cosmology. He has resided in London, United Kingdom.
During his involvement in the free-energy field, Emery reported associating with a number of figures active in that milieu, including John Bedini, Tom Bearden, Floyd "Sparky" Sweet, Bruce DePalma and Joseph Papp, and says he provided funding toward several of their experimental devices.
Work
Emery has written a series of essays, many of them posted on the blog of Sepp Hasslberger and on the academic-sharing website Academia.edu, in which he sets out his views on the structure of the universe. Central to this work is the Uniform Field Concept (which he also styles the "uniform field theorem"), a two-dimensional field model in which he holds that space, described as an aether, is fundamentally uniform and that light travels through it in straight lines as a uniform field.
Written in what Emery describes as a "cowboy's lingo", the essays combine physical concepts such as aether theory, spin, gravity and inertia with religious and mystical ideas, framing the universe as continuously constructed by God. Individual essays address topics including the holographic paradigm, "nested aethers", near-death experiences, the temperature of the universe, the origins of the Big Bang, and connections he draws to the work of Wilhelm Reich. These writings present personal, non-peer-reviewed hypotheses rather than experimentally established results.
