Wilhelmus de Wilde (born 26 July 1945) is a Dutch independent researcher, now retired and living in Montrouveau, Loir-et-Cher, France, who writes on the philosophy of physics. He is known for his speculative work on consciousness, causality and spacetime, developed through essays and forum contributions for the Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi) and preprints posted to the viXra archive.
Biography
De Wilde is a retired researcher of Dutch nationality who resides in the village of Montrouveau in the Loir-et-Cher department of central France. Working outside of academic institutions, he has pursued questions in foundational physics and the philosophy of mind as an independent thinker. From 2012 onward he took part in the annual essay contests and community forums of the Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi), and he has posted related preprints to the viXra e-print archive.
Work
De Wilde's writing centers on the relationship between consciousness, causality and spacetime. He proposes a distinction between the ordinary causal, deterministic universe, which he treats as bounded by the Planck Wall, and a domain he calls "Total Simultaneity," a hypothetical dimension in which causality and sequential time do not apply. In this framework causal timelines are described as sets of entangled probabilities that become actualized in observed reality.
A recurring theme in his essays is the idea that subjective experience forms "simultaneity spheres" around each conscious observer, and that the intersections of many such spheres give rise to a shared or objective reality, which he likens to a foam-like structure. He treats consciousness itself as a kind of singularity standing outside ordinary material causality, and connects these ideas to discussions of quantum phenomena, free will and the limits of reductionist explanation.
