"The Impossible Photon" is an article by David de Hilster published on 25 May 2019 on Beyond Mainstream, with a companion video on his Dissident Science channel.

De Hilster argues that the standard account of light does not survive its own definitions. Taking the conventional description of the photon as an elementary particle that is simultaneously the quantum of the electromagnetic field and the carrier of the electromagnetic force, he works through what each of those terms is separately taken to mean and argues that the combination is incoherent rather than merely counter-intuitive.
