Crothers rejects the black hole image as a discovery at all, and states his objection as a matter of internal contradiction rather than evidence. A black hole is said to concentrate a finite mass in a singularity of zero volume, infinite density and infinite gravity, though no finite mass has any of those properties; and the event horizon is assigned an escape speed of zero, an escape speed equal to c, and no capacity for escape at all, simultaneously and in the same place. He argues no image can rescue a definition that is self-contradictory.
