Christopher M. Klinger is a researcher known for his work with physicist Reginald T. Cahill on a pregeometric, information-based model of cosmology sometimes called "process physics." He is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.
Work
Working with Reg Cahill at Flinders University (Adelaide, Australia), Klinger co-authored a series of papers proposing that space and time are not fundamental but emerge from an underlying non-geometric, self-organising process. In "Bootstrap Universe from Self-Referential Noise" (1997) and "Self-Referential Noise and the Synthesis of Three-Dimensional Space" (published in General Relativity and Gravitation), the authors generalise results of Gödel and Chaitin on self-referential systems to argue that such systems contain intrinsic randomness, which they term "self-referential noise." They propose that this noise drives an order–disorder process from which three-dimensional space and a "richer than geometric" notion of time emerge, aiming to overcome what they call the "end-game problem" of purely formal models of reality.
These ideas developed into the "process physics" program associated with Cahill, and were later republished in Progress in Physics. The work lies outside the mainstream of theoretical physics and cosmology.
