Cláudia Penélope Fournier is a Portuguese author and self-taught student of physics who has published articles presenting alternative ideas in cosmology and the philosophy of science. She is listed in The Worldwide List of Dissident Scientists.

Background

Fournier was born in Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. She has stated that she developed an early interest in physics and attended the first year of a higher-education programme in theoretical physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, afterward continuing to study the subject on her own. In 2010 she enrolled at the Universidade Aberta (Open University) for a degree in information science.

Ideas

In writings hosted at the General Science Journal, Fournier questions the standard cosmological account in which all of the fundamental forces of nature originate together from the Big Bang, which she regards as a critical error. She also discusses epistemological themes, contrasting deduction, which she describes as a method for checking the logical consistency of thought, with induction as a source of new knowledge. These positions lie outside mainstream physics and cosmology.
